I’ve recently noticed that menu items in the WordPress dashboard’s sidebar have been overlapping, disappearing, and acting erratically. You can see in the screenshot below how the sidebar is acting up.
I went looking for a fix today and came across the following post on the WordPress support forums, with a fix by a user named Samuel Wood:
Samuel mentions that this is an issue with recent updates to the Chrome browser, and gives the following steps to fix the problem.
- Go to chrome://flags/#disable-slimming-paint (you’ll have to copy and paste the url, as chrome doesn’t allow the config page to be linked to)
- Enable the “Disable slimming paint” option.
- Ensure that the “Enable slimming paint” option below it is not turned on.
- Relaunch Chrome.
In step one, you should see the flag option at the top of your screen, looking like this:
You’ll want to enable the highlighted option, and ensure that the option below it (Enable slimming paint) is disabled. After you enable the option, the background should turn white, like this:
After the browser restarts, you shouldn’t see any issues with the sidebar.
